I’m Writing this as I’ve seen a number of domain names become suspended recently, so I thought a bit of a public service announcement was in order.
If you’ve registered a domain name or changed your contact information on a domain recently, among the emails you will have received will be one asking you to verify your contact information.
As of January 1st 2014, ICANN, who coordinate the Internet’s global domain name system mandated that registries must validate the contact information they used to register the domain.
This happens any time a new domain contact is created or either the first name, last name, or email contact for the registrant changes.
Check your SPAM folders and don’t ignore it
I know that when you register a domain name you get a few emails but it’s well worth checking your SPAM folders in case you missed this important email becuase if you get one and don’t respond within 15 days ICAAN will suspend your domain.
Once the domain is suspended any services you have linked to it will stop working and it’s important to note that this is not Hosting UK suspending your domain – we have no powers to intervene.
You can read about ICANN’s new policy at: http://www.icann.org/en/resources/registrars/raa/approved-with-specs-27jun13-en.htm#whois-accuracy.
Nominet are at it too
Nominet have also launched their Data Quality Improvement Program and are working to validate information they hold on domain registrants.
You can read more about their program at: http://www.nominet.org.uk/uk-domain-names/registering-uk-domain/choosing-domain-name/advice/data-quality-improvement-programme
If you find a recently registered or modified domain has been suspended but you can’t find that verification email we should be able to get it re-issued – get in touch with our support team and they’ll be able to help you.
